Some days are just bad, but not today friends…not today.
There is nothing more demotivating than waking up, looking forward to a good day, getting the kids dressed, teeth brushed, breakfast, all of those crazy details and then realizing that everyone is in a shitty mood. Blah. We all have bad day’s…not just us momma’s but our babies too. I can sometimes get lost in the excuses of a bad day. ‘It’s too hot today’ or ‘I’m not taking them anywhere, everyone is in a bad mood’ or ‘Nap time is in 2 hours, we aren’t leaving the house.’
Today I realized that we have more control than I thought. Our kids don’t steer the damn ship, we do. They may be the ones rocking the boat, but we steer it. Captain of the ship. Now, that’s a title I could get used too. We can turn a crappy day and make the most of it. Let’s be serious, our toddlers will have no lightbulb moment that will miraculously change their mood and turn this day around…but we can. We lead these little packs, even if the pack doesn’t listen to a word we say and even when we don’t want to claim them, they are looking to us to set the example.
So, after a bleak morning of tears, potty accidents, literal crying over spilt milk and one monster headache, I made the choice to turn the day around. I got them all dressed, packed some drinks, loaded us all in the car and turned a morning I would love to forget into a day I probably never will. Did we do anything life changing? No. We played in the chick-fil-a play place, got lunch to go, ate it out of the trunk of our SUV and threw rocks into a lake. There was smiling, laughing and picture taking…dare I say everyone was happy?
It was momentary. The minute we walked in the door the crying, screaming and fighting started all over again. But at that point, they couldn’t get me down. It was too close to nap time and I was way too proud of the morning I had made out of nothing. I may not always but today, I found the beauty in a bad day.
Scream on babies – this morning, I won and although you don’t know it yet, you did too!
