One of motherhoods finest and most painful ironies is when so many ‘firsts’ seem to be happening all at once. Why does life have to torture our fragile hearts?! This fall I sent my first baby off to Kindergarten, sent my middle to preschool and I am starting this passion project, Mommy Diatribes.
So, what is Mommy Diatribes? It is my collection of truth-tellings and antidotes. It is motherhood – unfiltered, unedited, raw and real. If you are looking for the colorful truth about parenthood, mixed with some bad language and a little sarcasm, I am your girl. So, let’s get started with the first antidote. Just remember, they won’t all be this sweet. I’m saving the good stuff for later 🙂
So at the end of her very first day of Kindergarten, Faith said to me ‘Mom, thanks for looking out for me and getting me ready.’ Now, we all know that as a mom, especially of toddlers, a genuine ‘thank you’ is very hard to come by but it was what she said next that nearly knocked me to the floor. ‘I felt ready.’
Excuse me? Let me pick my jaw up off the floor and wipe my grateful tears. She felt ready. Not only did she feel ready but she was giving me the credit. We have so many proud moments as parents…first steps, the first ‘I love you’ the first time making a friend, the first time you witness your child being truly kind. The list goes on and on. But this? This was my proudest moment so far.
Who knows if that simple (yet complex) sentiment will ever come my way again, but that’s ok because it came when I needed it too. Faith was ready for Kindergarten just like I’m ready to share Mommy Diatribes with all of you.
I hope you can relate, find comfort and laugh along with my antidotes and mini-mommy crises. I have a lot to share, so get ready…
