What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving? If we thought about it, I’m sure many of our answers would be the same. We’re thankful for healthy, happy children. We’re thankful for family and friends. We’re thankful for roofs over our head and food on the table. The list is long, as it should be.
But. There are also other things we’re thankful for – the not so obvious things. Things that aren’t as meaningful as family and friends, but things that help us through each and every day whether we even realize it or not. It’s not just the big things that bring everyday thanks, but the little things too. When I list the things that I’m thankful for this year, just like you, my family and friends will be at the absolute top of that list. Followed closely behind? This list of everyday, not so obvious, thankfulness…
Netflix
Netflix and chill. It’s a thing and for good reason. When the kids go to bed and we have 15, 30 minutes or even an hour to ourselves, Netflix becomes a trusted friend. Gilmore Girls anytime I want? Amazing.
Books
So, maybe this is just me but when I need an escape, I turn to books. Smutty, non-fiction to be exact. When I’m feeling a little burnt out, books help ease that stress. Maybe for you it’s music, or a good, strong, cocktail. Whatever it is, you get the point.
Coffee
Duh. Even if it’s cold or has been reheated 18 times, it’s comforting and gets the DAMN. JOB. DONE.
Nap Time
Before we start counting the minutes until bedtime, we’re counting the seconds until nap time. No matter how short or how long, a break is a break. Think a 15-minute recharge can’t change your day? Think again.
Second Chances
All the bribery, empty threats, and occasional yelling. It’s enough to torment yourself with guilt and worry. So, yes, we’re thankful for second chances, new days and a toddler’s short attention and memory span
Doors with Locks
Need to hide out for a few? Pee alone for once if your life? Yup, find a door with a solid lock…that is a lot to be thankful for.
Amazon
2 day shipping on anything you could possibly think or ask for. I could kiss the founder of Amazon!
Babysitters
Never underestimate the power of a good babysitter. If you don’t have one in your life, find one. ASAP. A trusted low to mid-20’s girl who can entertain your kids and put them to bed without a fight? So much to be thankful for.
Disney Junior
Ok, I know this doesn’t sound good. BUT, ever need to empty a car full of groceries and find something to entertain 3 kids in the process? Ever just need to quickly clean a bathroom or fold 30 loads of laundry? Yep, Disney Junior. I watch the screen-time just like everyone else but I’m super thankful for the occasional Sofia the First or Sheriff Callie episode.
A Really Good Concealer
I don’t know about you, but dark circles don’t even begin to describe my under-eyes. A good concealer and maybe some mascara, all a girl needs to get a little bit of pep back in her step.
What are you every-day thankful for? Maybe it’s the view out your kitchen window, cabinet locks or your dog that cleans up after every meal. Whatever it is, when you go around your Thanksgiving table this week and tell one another the things you are truly thankful for, our lists will largely be the same. Family, friends, health, happiness. And then, when you crawl into bed after that ridiculously long but wonderful day, I can promise you that you will also be thankful for Netflix, second chances and that coffee that’s waiting on you in the morning.
Happy Thanksgiving.
